COLOR BLOCKIN’, BOOTY ROCKIN’

“COLOR, COLOR, COLOR, COLOR, POPPIN’ EVERYWHERE!”—And yes, I did just make a Bubba Sparx, “Ms. New Booty”, reference in 2012. But enough about irrelevant strip club anthems, let’s get back to the real topic at hand…COLOR!

BOLD prints paired with VIBRANT solids gives us a bright & brave  introduction to Summer 2012. With regards to my personal style, in past seasons I’ve maintained a conservative taste when it comes to experimenting with color, but this year’s motto is: Go BOLD or go HOME! Don’t be afraid to step out of your color comfort zone!

STYLING TIP: For those of you who are of the darker shade of chocolate, like myself, finding the perfect pop of color can be difficult. Color is our best friend! We should avoid wearing blacks, browns, and other deep earth tones which may drown us out. I would also advise you to stay away from harsh neon colors, as they tend to have a sharp contrast against our skin which make us appear to be darker. My advice would be to stick with softer brights, deep pastels, and vibrant sorbet inspired tones which enhance & compliment our skin tone.

And remember, there is an entire spectrum of colors waiting for you!

“CAFE CON LECHE”

This summer I have decided to take my own direction when it comes to fashion. Instead of blindly following the latest trends, colors, and themes, I want to give my own flavor, or better yet, throw some sazón on it. We as a society are fixated and bombarded by magazines, marketing, and whatever other media outlets to buy the latest products. What ever happened to innovation? Individualism? You don’t want to look like a mannequin from an Ed Hardy store, or a magazine cut out.

This season, I’m starting off with Earth tone colors, which are mostly defined by browns, tans, grey, greens, whites, and deep reds. Fashion is what you make it, I call this look “Cafe con Leche” because it’s bold, represents my personal take on fashion, and my unique interpretation of style. No better way to describe this than what Yves Saint-Laurent stated, “Fashion fades, style is eternal.”

MUSIC HIGHLIGHT: COMMON

Common: With the release of his 9th studio album, Common has gone back to the basics. With the Hip Hop Movement still stuck in an Ice age, we are reminded what it Hip Hop is really about. The Dreamer/The Believer was produced entirely by No I.D. They were able to deliver an album full of hard hitting sounds and lyrics that takes us on a journey. It’s safe to say that we have a classic on our hands. Check the video below of the song “Sweet” of the album.
